Research and Planning.

I have conduct some research on artists that have similar texts and have had/will have an influence on our own work. As a group we sat down and thought of two artists that share similar texts and came up with Ed Sheeran and Kal Lavelle.

Although Kal Lavelle's song 'Downstairs' the lyrics are not similar to Paolo Nutini's song 'Rewind', the pace of the music video is similar. They both have the one main setting and both the videos are pretty random.
Kal Lavelle- Downstairs.

Kal Lavelle is an Irish born singer songwriter now living in London. Her songs are captivating with great emotional depth and honesty just like Paolo Nutini. She began to play the guitar when she won 1000£ in a Mars Bar when she was 10. Once she purchased her first every guitar she taught herself to play and since she has never been without her guitar.

Ed Sheeran's song 'Lego House' has a deep meaning behind it. the genre and feel and emotion of the song is very similar to the song 'Rewind' by Paolo Nutini.
Ed Sheeran- Lego House.

Ed Sheeran is an English singer-songwriter who is currently signed to Asylum/Atlantic Records. Ed Sheeran's single 'The A Team' debuted at number 3 on the UK charts and that is the single that helped him get well known.

Music Analysis- Owl City: Alligator Sky.

As the music video starts the shot goes from a close up to an extreme close up of the main singer. The shot stays like that for a good few seconds and by this happening you feel the emotions of the singer.
Although the visuals on the screen do not match the lyrics directly, they do in some sense because the lyrics are slightly on the unusual side and the actual video corresponds to it. At one point when the lyrics go "where was I when the rockets came to life..." you see a rocket blast off in the back while the singer walks through a deserted area in a astronaut outfit.
Throughout the music video there is no sexual reference at all. However because the music video is unusual this does capture the audience attention.

Music Analysis- Nicki Minaj: Super Bass.

As the song starts the shot goes from a close up of Nicki Minaj's face to an extreme close up of her eyes. Her eyes have been done up to be very attractive and capture ones attention.
In this music video her lyrics correspond to the visuals. For example, when the she raps "got stacks on deck like he savin up" you see money pile up.
Also throughout the music video, Nicki Minaj makes a few sexual references. She has physically buff guys in her music video, and the way she approaches them is in a very sexual manner. She uses her body figure to get the male attention for example when in the pink pool she is wearing a very provocative outfit and they show the men's heads turning.
Stuff like this happen all the way through the video and when it gets to the end a special effect is used to invert the colours. This is abother technique in capturing the audiences attention because the features that are most apparent on screen are those that presented in a sexual manner.

Contacting the Artist.

Last week we all tried to contact Paolo Nutini using several different social networking methods in order to get his permission to make an educational based music video using his song. He has not yet got back to us, but we will continue trying to contact him to gain his permission.

Initial Planning Evidence.

Last week we started to come up with ideas that we could use in our music video. Zaq drew the pictures in a storyboard.

Last week we also started to look at possible locations to film our music video.

In today's lesson we assigned each other with roles that will benefit us all in the research and planning before we start to film our music video.

Final Song Choices.

We have now narrowed our list down to two songs of which we will pick one to make a music video for.
The first song is "Talk you down" by The Script:

And the second choice is "Rewind" by Paolo Nutini.

Picking Songs

As a group we have now come together and have started to come up with possible songs. The first song we listened to was "Jenny don't be hasty". However we did not listen to the original version by Paolo Nutini. We listened to a cover by Chelsea Lee.
