THE END.

WE FINALLY FINISHED EDITING OUR MUSIC VIDEO TODAY!!
We also showed our teachers and peers our music video and we received many positive comments.
However, whilst editing today, Ishma and I came across a few difficulties one of which was that when Ishma started editing today she couldn't find the footage Joe and Zaq uploaded a few days ago. She spent a while looking for it and when she finally found it, some of the footage was missing. However, we did not have time to re-film so we just had to use what we had and we made it work!

Leo Blue: Finished Animatic

Leo Blue: Finished Animatic: We have used our storyboard and put the images to music to create an animatic, this gives us a sense of what our final piece may look like i...
We are going to film the girls singing the chorus tomorrow in our free lessons. At the moment we have decided on two locations 1) a room that have a black background and 2) Elm Rd. which has a beautiful brick wall and will look lovely with a mid shot of the girls standing in front of it.

Final Days.

Now that we are coming to the final days of our media coursework we are having a few problems with what we should add to the last remaining 30 seconds of the music video. At first we decided to just use up the extra footage of the locations as fillers, however, we now have decided to film a few girls singing the chorus and we will use them for those 30 seconds.

Leo Blue Logo.

This is the logo of our artist Leo. We decided to go with this because Leo is also a star sign so it works well with the imagery.

Record Label Logo.

This logo was designed by Zaq and Ishma edited it using Photoshop.

DIGIPAK POSTER.

For our song 'Rewind' I have created this poster which is in fact advertising our digipak for the single.

I created this using Photoshop and the picture was taken of Fraser on the first day of filming and in the music video you see him walking down this path.
'Bingz' is our friend Conor who played the guitar in our music video and I decided to mention him on my poster because from all the other posters I analysed I realised that they all have mentioned the features in the album.

Poster analysis.

This is a poster for Drake's album release. The first thing you notice when looking at this is the Drake himself and his name. Now those people that are his fans will be attracted to this straight away. Another thing that catches ones eye is the release date and this is very eye-catching because the whole poster is black and white expect for the release date which is on a red strip. On the poster they have also mentioned those that are features on some of the tracks.

Record Company: Atlantic Records.

This is the record company that our artist Paolo Nutini is signed up.
Atlantic Records is an American record label, and over the first 20 years in business it earned a reputation as one of the most important American independent recording labels.
Craig Kallman is currently the Chairman of Atlantic Records.
The label also has a number of deals with previously independent labels such as Must Destory and VP Records in Jamaica, home to reggae artists such as Sean Paul.
In recent years, Warner Communications merged with Time Inc. in 1990, forming Time Warner. That same year, Jimmy Lovine founded Interscope Records, which Atlantic owned a 50% stake in. Interscope release notable gangsta rap titles. Later partner company Time Warner's decided to sell Atlantic's stake in the label to MCA in 1995.
A country music division, which was founded in the 1990s, was closed in 2001 however The Atlantic Nashville division was reviewed in 2008 with Zac Brown Band and Jesse Lee being signed to it.
In 2007, Atlantic reached a milestone for major records: "More than half of its music sales in the United States are now from digital products..."

Examples of Digipak.

Codes and Conventions of Digipak.

In order to make our digipak realistic and professional, I have started to look into digipaks that are already out for the conventions that are included in them. From my research I have found that they include: the main image, the bands name and the track list. A digipack is something that includes both a CD and a DVD.
Within a digipak you will find the following information:

  • Visual imagery.
  • Album title (on the main cover and along the spine)
  • Track list and what is on the DVD.
  • The band or artist name.
  • And some background information of the band/artist.
On the front of the digipak you have the main image-- this could be of the artist/band or something that is an iconic symbol to them that they can be identified by. You also find the name of the album on the front in big eye catching font.
On the spine of the digipak you have the names of artist/band and the name of the album and institution.
The back panel usually has the track list.
The fold-in panel often has an image of the artist/band.
The inside panels have the CD, maybe a booklet and often more images of the artist/band or the symbolic icon. You may also find information about the album and some famous quotes by the artist/band.
Another important factor is that the colour scheme often reflects the mood of the album and the genre of the tracks on the disc.

Music Analysis- Gotye: Somebody That I Used To Know

This music video is quite unusual however at the same time it is very intriguing. The concept of this music video is very simple. It does not have much movement yet because it has a different concept to it, it is eye catching. The body paint and shapes are not something you see in every music video but this makes the audience question the meaning behind this song.
The opening shot is of the camera going from a black cream surface to a panning shot, starting from his feet all the way up his leg and through to his face. Although if you was to just think of this idea you may think that no one would want to watch this, but it is such a strong opening scene it grips you into it and makes you watch the rest of the video.
His facial expressions are also another aspect that makes the audience want to continue to watch. Likewise the drawing that starts to take place, you feel the need to continue watching the music video to see what it turns out to be.
The editing has been done to the beat of the song. You can tell this because every time a certain beat comes the jump to the wall or body being painted and then they jump back to a shot of him singing.
When Kimbra starts to sing you can really feel her emotion in the song and from Gotye's expression you get really sucked into the video.
I really enjoy how the video ends and I think overall the music video is very good.

Marketisation: The Script.

The Script is a very popular band and they have marketised themselves in many different ways such as visiting radio stations to advertise their new songs. This is a picture of the singer of the band Danny O'Donoghue with Fearne Cotton on her radio show.
Other ways they have advertised their albums and songs is mainly through their website. All artists and bands tend to have a website dedicated to them and their music and just like that The Script also have one, on which you can find out about everything they're getting up to. You can view any new news they have and you can visit their blog. You can also view their biography, music, video, images, newsletter and their merchandise. You can also click onto 'live' and see any forthcoming dates for gigs and tours that they are doing.
The Script also sell merchandises which in turn sells their band name. Sell products gets people to start talking about them and through word of mouth they start to become known and popular.

Editing.

Ishma and I have been editing our footage for almost three weeks now. The editing process has been going okay with a few minor glitches that were resolved straight away. One of the problems we encountered was that Ishma and I both only knew how to use iMovies, so to start editing on Final Cut was slightly difficult. However with the help of our technician it wasn't too difficult to get to grips with how to use it. Another problem we encountered was that whilst editing we realised that we did not have enough footage for the whole song. Due to this we decided to split the roles up in between us. We decided that seeing as Ishma and I know how to edit, we will continue editing and Zaq and Joe can go out to film. So far this has been working out fine and we haven't come across any more problems.
At this moment we have just half the song left to edit. We are hoping that this doesn't take too long.
